SEO Best Practices for Higher Search Rankings

SEO Best Practices for Higher Search Rankings

"We did SEO" is a phrase you hear a lot — but your Google ranking moves on specific factors. Get them right and growth follows; miss one fundamental and the rest of the effort leaks away. In 2026, SEO is an integrated system: technical foundations, content, user experience and external reputation.

Here are the practices that still genuinely matter, ordered by priority, in a form any site owner or marketing lead can use. Our SEO service at Harisl Marketing is executed in exactly this order.

1. Technical foundations — more important than you think

Before any content, Google needs to understand your site and trust its structure:

  • A correct canonical on every page: each page must point to itself. Get this wrong and Google consolidates your pages into each other and they simply never appear — a real problem we found and fixed at the root on our own website.
  • A clean sitemap: generated automatically from your database, with real modification dates, containing only the URLs that matter.
  • Speed and page experience: heavy pages mean weaker rankings and a worse experience. Loading speed and layout stability (Core Web Vitals) are actual ranking factors.
  • Clear URL structure: short, descriptive URLs, with every important page a few clicks from the homepage.

This foundation is the core of our web development work — a fast, correctly engineered site from day one is far cheaper than repairing a site with accumulated errors.

2. Content that answers better than anyone else

Google ranks pages that genuinely serve the searcher's intent:

  • One page per search intent: do not cram five services into one page and expect to rank for all five. Every service or topic deserves its own focused page.
  • Unique meta titles and descriptions: every page gets its own, starting with the target keyword and written to earn the click.
  • Real depth, not filler: a strong article covers the topic from its practical angles — examples, steps, common mistakes — not a rewrite of competitor text.
  • Refreshing old content: old articles and services decay gradually; periodic review and rewriting the weak ones brings pages back into competition — exactly what we did with older posts on Harisl's own blog.

3. Internal linking — your strongest free tool

Internal links tell Google (and visitors) what matters on your site, and distribute authority between pages:

  • Link from articles to related service pages using descriptive anchor text.
  • Leave no orphan pages: every published page should be reachable from somewhere else on the site.
  • Three to five deliberate internal links per article is the practical rule we apply on our own blog and client blogs.

4. Appearing in AI answers (GEO)

Traditional search is no longer the whole picture. Many customers now ask ChatGPT and AI platforms "best software company in Egypt" and receive ready-made names. Appearing there requires:

  • Consistent company data everywhere (name, services, contact details).
  • Content with quotable facts and numbers and a clear heading structure.
  • Profiles and reviews on trusted external platforms.

We explained this in full in our article GEO: how to get AI to recommend your business — a natural extension of SEO, not a replacement for it.

5. External reputation and backlinks

Links from real sites in your field remain a strong trust signal. The right approach: presence in reputable professional directories, content worth citing, and natural brand mentions — staying completely away from buying random links, which now harms more than it helps.

6. Measurement and consistency

SEO is not a one-off project. The minimum useful measurement system:

  • Weekly indexing and keyword checks in Search Console.
  • Reviewing pages that are losing rank and refreshing them before they disappear.
  • A monthly content plan built on keywords your customers actually search for.

Bottom line

Higher rankings come from an accumulation of correct factors: sound technical foundations, content that truly answers, smart internal linking and external reputation — and they disappear quickly if any foundation collapses. Start with critical technical errors, then content, and make measurement a weekly habit.

The Harisl marketing team runs full SEO audits and fixes these problems at the root for companies in Egypt and the Gulf. If you want to know where your site actually stands, send us your website link and we will send you a clear initial assessment.
